The carnage and mayhem of the last week has subsided, but as our Government begins a wide sweeping crackdown, including uniquely punishing the uninvolved relatives of rioters and threatening some sort of action against social networks, how credibly can the Conservatives condemn young people who damage property and threaten people?

  1. We mustn't lose track of the fact that there were people waiting to catch her.

    I hope it doesn't sound disrespectful, but the photographer was either amazingly talented or amazingly lucky (or a mixture of both) to get that picture. I also hope I'm not guilty of over-using the word "iconic" in describing the picture in this way.

  2. Vanilla, agree with you on both counts - it is iconic (and understandably dramatic). And just as the last week has shown some truly awful things, equally the fact that people took risks to help each other and are taking time to rebuild their communities gives some hope, in spite of the politicians' obsession with just one of the many aspects of the troubles.
